Hauk Security’s approach starts with the basics. We call this blocking and tackling from the football basics analogy. We start by covering areas inside the restaurant with proper camera resolution, area of coverage and backlight compensation that will protect employees and deter a robbery. Showing the potential thieves their picture on the “big screen” has been a good deterrent, said Travis Hauk, Partner and 3rd Generation Hauk Security installer. Pan handling and harassing drivers in line at the drive thru has been almost totally stopped with the addition of cameras and using 2-way audio communication. Additionally, protecting the internal public areas showing the entrance doors with height measurement cameras, cameras viewing the drink machines, dining room registers and offices. An important area to protect with a security camera is the bathroom entrances including an access control codes to enter, and a personal favorite, dining room cameras with a loitering timer that can notify the manager of a person that stays beyond their welcome. Eating is encouraged, snoring in the restaurant is frowned on.  

It wouldn’t be security if we didn’t protect the shareholders cash, inventory, cooking areas for workers compensation fraud protection and the manager’s office with a safe. Outside camera protection and deterrence is also important. At all the locations, Hauk Security installs a license plate recognition camera to capture and store every single car that enters the parking lot. Additionally, a PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera faces the entrance and exit of the restaurant’s parking lot. The PTZ is in high traffic areas outside of the restaurant for optimal protection of the parking lot and surrounding areas including the garbage to prevent illegal dumping.  Hauk has even had to add additional camera security on light poles to deter copper theft from the light poles. Thieves prove they are desperate when they are willing to cut 240-volt light fixtures to steal copper for a few hundred dollars. Dangerous and so un-necessary.

Finally, our blocking & tackling parallel wouldn’t be complete unless we arm the back door receiving dock of every fast-food restaurant. Hauk Security has a door alarm system as a local alarm system to keep the back exit door always shut. If someone opens the exit door between the hours of 9PM to 5AM, an alarm will sound that triggers the back door camera to start recording, siren alerts employees inside and a flashing light turns on in some locations. Additionally, the recording is then sent to the emails of all managers with a time stamp of who left the door open. We make the alarm easy to know if it is armed or not by installing a customized LED (light emitting diode) that will turn from green (OK to go outside) to RED (stop, don’t exit at this time).

Hauk Security also installs monitors to protect the meat products from spoilage. Imagine an irresponsible employee serving you a meat product that thawed out, got bacteria, and served you the poisonous food. We believe all parties are protected with buzzers on the cooler and freezer doors set that they cannot be propped open longer than 2 minutes. If either door is propped open for 2 minutes, the buzzers go off until it is shut, manager gets a video clip of who left the freezer open. This allows a manager to manage his store responsibly by taking corrective action. Additional benefits are to create employee habits by never propping the doors open, saving electricity, preventing food poising and wasteful assets. We install temperature sensors inside the cooler, freezer, kitchen area, dining area, and office and remotely regulate and monitor the temperature for a controlled dining experience. If the freezer or cooler is running too warm, it is important to get it looked at for food safety, whereas if it is too cold, it is wasting a lot of electricity and changes the repeatable process efficiency of being called “fast food”. The kitchen and dining room are monitored to make sure that the air conditioning is working properly and is at the proper temperature for a comfortable dining experience.    

Hauk Security deployed audio systems at all the Jack-in-the-Box locations that have a problem with homeless, vandalism and drug addicts on the premises. By installing a paging speaker system and microphones at all the problem areas inside and outside of the restaurant, we’re able to amplify protection with a loud voice announcing our intent. Installing these speakers and microphones have worked extremely well. Management is able to watch the cameras from a remote location and get on the loudspeaker with a two way conversation instead of just a recording what happened.
